...podcast on Sean

I just found this podcast on Sean, though its a few months old now. Sean's expensive treatments appear to have put the cancer in remission, but I'm sure the uninsured Sean is still trying to pay some bills. Donate at his website or order Coleones CD's and I'll give it all to Sean!

...flee the century is dead

The greatest fantasy/sci-fi band from of the future was Flee the Century. They have officially put themselves into the ground and for the funeral they put together a DVD that you can message them on myspace about purchasing it for your hard copy library. Flee the Century's "Raiders of the New Space Age" (featured in the video) is the band's late era lyrical masterpiece.

You can still order their earlier 2 CDs here, and I'll even include some stickers if I've got some left.

...natural selection goes down smooth

Heart Pharmacy offers up these sparkley numbers. It is a slick sounding piece of work that satisfies a punkish acoustic appetite, while promising great things to come in more ways than one. Heart Pharmacy is the solo work of Ali Sarijlou, who played in the band IPX. Please listen, download, and listen again. Befriend Heart Pharmacy at Myspace

...welcome to the suburban zoo

So here is the kick-off of an experiment into a different method of distributing music. I thought it would be great for nostalgia to post up a meaningful set of songs to me and this entity known as Sickboy Records. Closing in on 10 years old, this album was recorded and released in 1997-1998ish by my good friends; Steve, Luke, Kris and Gentry of Hospital Food. Who have remained my friends throughout. Gentry tragically passed away almost a year ago, his and a great many other memories will live forever inside this music.

...dead format

Just a note to mark the passing of the 10th year since I began throwing around cassette tapes filled with the music made by my friends. Cassette tapes that were duplicated, one at a time, on my bedroom boom box. It was fun, cheap and punk rock. Plus, it helped to meet a lot of new friends that are still there for me today, and gave me some good memories of others.

In 1997 the cassette tape was a common medium, while compact discs were slowly becoming the preferred method. C.D.'s hadn't yet taken the hold they had, before they went out of style in a cycle that has been repeating since recorded music began its life as a commodified product.

In a time before digital portable mp3 players, the business of small time punk rock was driven by photocopiers. Flyer's and mail order catalog's were printed and distributed, and the occasional classified ad was placed in one of the many printed fanzines. Then along came the internet and changed all of that.

The problem I face today is that I do not want to sell a product that I do not want to buy myself. So, I have decided to phase out the compact disc. What I have left in C.D.s will still be up for sale here for those that want them still, but I am going to experiment with simply posting mp3's here. I am thinking a lot about what music label's have been to music in the past, and what they should be nowadays.

...beyond the moonwalker

I recently received the new recording from Flee the Century and unless a larger more powerful, more world dominating, more evil and all around more rulin' music label than this one is interested in it releasing it, then it will be available right here with in the coming months. They have a massive tour planned for December and into the next year in support of the new release. Help them out with a show if you can, or just go listen to some of the new songs here.
Also I have updated the events section with upcoming shows from Books About UFOs, Flee the Century and Glacial
